Hacienda is continuing its partnership with the Alameda County Community Food Bank to raise much needed food and funds to help some of the most vulnerable members of our community with the 2019 Holiday Food Drive. As a participant in the Holiday Food Drive, your donations go a long way towards helping the Food Bank meet their mission in Alameda County. Locally, a number of Tri-Valley operations are recipients of food and money collected by the Food Bank.
Hacienda would like to encourage you to support our twenty year tradition and join in the annual Alameda County Community Food Bank Holiday Food Drive. During last year's Holiday Food Drive, Hacienda collected food which provided thousands of meals for the needy. This year Hacienda is working with the food bank to help them to continue feeding the people that depend on the services of the food bank weekly. Our goal is bigger than ever: helping the Food Bank to collect 800,000 pounds of food and five million dollars to create 11 million meals for those in need! We know we can meet this goal and more with your help and to that end we have made it even easier to participate and donate this year.
The Food Bank continues to see a dramatic increase in demand and now serves 1 in 5 residents of Alameda County; nearly half of who are children or seniors. You can make a difference in the community by collecting non-perishable food or making a financial donation to support the Food Bank's hunger relief and advocacy efforts. The Food Bank relies on the support of local businesses, schools, service organizations and community members to assist those in need especially during the holidays when demand for emergency food is at its peak.
The Food Bank's collection effort focuses on healthy non-perishable food in containers other than glass. The Food Bank particularly encourages contributions of the following:
Canned tuna and chicken
Canned fruits and vegetables
Peanut butter
Pasta and tomato sauce
Rice, beans and lentils
Soups (low sodium) and stews
Low-sugar cereal and oatmeal
Powdered milk
There are many ways to donate and help with this year's effort. Host a barrel, donate food, donate money or help sort food for distribution. Working together we can end hunger in Alameda County.
Hosting a barrel is a great way to encourage your employees and customers to donate, and a convenient and easy way to get involved. This year Hacienda will be arranging for the delivery of collection barrels within Hacienda. Simply contact the Hacienda Owners Association using the information below and arrangements will be made to get a red barrel delivered to your Hacienda location. Please note that if you would like to make a donation of food and are not able to locate a barrel, you may contact the Association using the information below and a representative will meet you to retrieve your donation.
Visit the Food Bank's virtual shop to help them purchase the items they need the most. This is a great way to donate goods like milk, meat and produce that cannot be placed in a barrel. The Food Bank is able to distribute $6 worth of food for every $1 donated virtually. As a special bonus, Hacienda Helping Hands will match all funds raised by tenants through the Hacienda Virtual Food Drive, up to $5,000, through December 31st. To participate, simply visit: https://www.vfd-accfb.org/grouphome.aspx?ID=7113. You can then donate under the Hacienda drive.
Additional information is available on the food drive, hosting a barrel, organizations benefiting from the collection effort, and ideas on how to provide incentives to companies and individuals to participate.
